Germany Ends Military Mission in Iraq’s Kurdish Region
(MENAFN) Germany concludes its military advisory mission in Iraq’s Kurdish region after years of supporting international efforts against ISIS.
A ceremony at Stephan Camp near Erbil International Airport marks the departure of the German military advisers, with senior Kurdish officials, representatives of coalition members, and military commanders attending the event.
The mission ends after years of German involvement in operations aimed at combating ISIS in Iraq and supporting security forces in the Kurdistan Region.
The Peshmerga Ministry praises the German military team for its contribution to strengthening Peshmerga forces, particularly during operations against ISIS.
Germany also provides military equipment, medical assistance, logistical support, and training aimed at improving the capabilities and infrastructure of the Kurdish forces.
Berlin begins its support for the Peshmerga in 2014 as the fight against ISIS intensifies, later deploying troops to Erbil to train local forces. The German parliament formally approves the training mission in January 2015.
