Trump Claims Iranian Supreme Leader Sustains Serious Injuries
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei remains alive but has suffered serious injuries affecting the left side of his body.
"He was very seriously wounded. The left side of his body, the arm, the leg, the whole thing," Trump told political commentator Glenn Beck.
Trump also questions reports about Khamenei’s condition, suggesting that if the Iranian leader had died, authorities would be doing a convincing job of maintaining the appearance that he was still involved in government discussions.
The US president further predicts that the conflict with Iran, which began on Feb. 28 following US and Israeli strikes, could come to an end “fairly soon.” He also repeats his claim that the Strait of Hormuz has been successfully reopened.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, however, maintains that the strategic waterway will remain closed until Washington accepts Tehran’s demands and returns to the framework agreement reached in June.
Trump says around 10 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday and claims that 22 vessels crossed the waterway safely overnight.
He also says Tuesday that mines in the international waters of the strait have been removed or detonated. Iran disputes the claim, maintaining that only its authorities know where the mines are located.
