Trump Dismisses Concerns Over CIA Chief’s Moscow Mission
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump describes CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s recent trip to Moscow as a largely routine mission, rejecting speculation that the visit is connected to possible Russian military action against NATO members or the UK.
Asked about reports suggesting Russia could be testing the resolve of Western allies or considering an attack on Britain, Trump responds, "None of the above," while emphasizing that Ratcliffe’s visit was not related to such scenarios.
Trump praises Ratcliffe as a "fantastic guy" and says the CIA chief traveled to Moscow for other purposes.
"Now something may come out of it. We’re working very hard to get that war ended," he said, referring to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The US president also says both Moscow and Kyiv appear increasingly interested in ending the conflict, claiming that "frankly, they both want to see it ended at this point."
The Kremlin confirms that Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow on Tuesday involved discussions between security agencies. The trip marks the first visit by a CIA director to the Russian capital since 2021.
Ratcliffe does not meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during the trip, although Kremlin officials say Putin receives a briefing on the discussions afterward.
