Italy Says US Ties Remain Strong Despite Policy Differences
(MENAFN) Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani says relations between Rome and Washington remain solid, dismissing suggestions of a growing divide between the two countries.
Tajani stresses that the bilateral relationship extends beyond the leadership of individual presidents and is supported by long-standing common interests and shared principles.
He says disagreements between allies are expected, particularly when addressing major international crises, but argues that such differences can be handled through direct and constructive dialogue.
"It is natural for allies to have frank discussions about international crises. Transatlantic relations remain the fundamental pillar of our security, especially at a time when our strategic adversaries are counting on greater fragility in the West," he said.
Tajani also points to the recent NATO summit in Ankara as evidence that member states remain committed to the alliance. Rather than indicating a “split,” he describes the discussions as part of a broader effort to determine how NATO can become stronger and more effective in the future.
He further highlights Italy’s goal of developing a relationship with the US centered on "pragmatism, greater trade and cooperation looking directly to the future.”
