Canada Revokes Jerusalem Deputy Mayor’s Travel Authorization
(MENAFN) Canada has reportedly withdrawn the travel authorization of Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King over his involvement in settlement activities in the occupied city.
King has been associated with efforts to take control of Palestinian homes in occupied East Jerusalem and has also campaigned against the presence of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, in the city.
According to reports, King was expected to travel to Canada to participate in an event intended to collect donations for his settlement-related initiatives.
King says the decision “came as a result of a campaign waged against me by Arabs,” linking the measure to his opposition to UNRWA and his support for Jewish settlement activities in occupied East Jerusalem.
The reported decision comes amid increasing criticism of Israel’s policies toward Palestinians in the occupied territories, particularly as the war in Gaza continues.
King has repeatedly advocated taking over Palestinian properties in East Jerusalem. He has also pushed for the removal of UNRWA’s headquarters from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and proposed establishing a settlement on the site.
On Tuesday, King voiced strong approval of Israel’s takeover of the Qalandia Training Center, an UNRWA-operated facility located north of Jerusalem.
