Temperatures To Ease Through Weekend, Light Rain Possible Sunday

Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) -- A gradual drop in temperatures is forecast through the weekend, bringing milder conditions across most regions after Thursday's above-average heat, with a chance of light rain over parts of the country early Sunday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

Temperatures on Thursday are expected to remain 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages, with relatively hot weather prevailing across most regions. Very hot conditions will continue in the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, accompanied by moderate northwesterly winds that may become active at times.

A slight decline is forecast on Friday, bringing moderate weather to the mountainous areas and plains. Hot conditions will persist in the Badia, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba will remain very hot. Moderate northwesterly winds are expected to strengthen occasionally.

Temperatures will fall further on Saturday, returning to around their seasonal averages. Moderate conditions will prevail across most regions, while the Badia remains relatively hot and the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba continue to experience hot weather.

Low clouds are also forecast over northern areas on Saturday. Moderate westerly winds will become active at intervals and may raise dust across parts of the Badia.

The cooling trend will continue on Sunday, with partly cloudy and moderate weather expected across most regions. Light rain showers are possible during the early morning over parts of the northern and west-central regions.

Relatively hot to hot conditions will persist in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba on Sunday, while moderate westerly winds are forecast to become active at intervals and occasionally raise dust in desert areas.

Thursday's temperatures are forecast to reach 36 degrees Celsius in East Amman and 33 C in West Amman, with highs of 32 C in the northern highlands, 33 C in the Sharah highlands and 35 C across the plains.

Temperatures will be considerably higher in the desert and low-lying regions, reaching 40 C in the Badia, 42 C in the northern Jordan Valley and at the Dead Sea, and 43 C in the southern Jordan Valley and Aqaba.
