Prime Minister, ADFD Chief Discuss Expanding Jordan-UAE Cooperation

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday received Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) Director-General Mohamed Suwaidi, who is visiting the Kingdom to sign agreements to finance projects in vocational and technical education and energy, as well as to support the general budget.

Hassan highlighted the deep relations and strategic partnership between Jordan and the UAE, expressing appreciation for Emirati support in advancing Jordan's economic development under the guidance of both leaderships, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

He commended ADFD's role in financing vital strategic projects and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation into new sectors.

Suwaidi said that bilateral ties serve as a model for constructive collaboration, expressing pride in the fund's historical partnership with Jordan and its support for national development priorities.

The funded projects include constructing five modern vocational and technical education schools valued at approximately $40 million across Amman, Mafraq, Jerash, and Irbid, aligning with the government's strategy to expand technical education.

Additionally, ADFD is providing $70 million to supply natural gas to Al Rawda Industrial City in Maan and Al Muwaqqar Industrial City, alongside studies to extend coverage to the King Hussein Bin Talal Development Zone in Mafraq.

This initiative aims to reduce energy costs for local industries, stimulate the business environment, and enhance national product competitiveness, the statement said.

Over the past five years, ADFD has provided nearly $1 billion in grants and assistance for projects in education, energy, digital transformation at the Ministry of Health, and development of lands adjacent to the Baptism Site.

The fund also provided a new $300 million soft loan to support Jordan's general budget.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan attended the meeting.
