Belarus Builds Railway For New Military Facility Near Ukrainian Border

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty reported this.

"This follows from design documentation obtained by the Belarusian Railway Workers' Community. It confirms that a separate railway infrastructure is being designed for the facility officially called 'Construction of a Training Ground in the Gomel Region,'" the publication said.

The project's client is reportedly the Military Design Institute. The project includes a separate access railway track capable of accommodating up to 60 railcars, as well as a freight platform with a ramp for unloading wheeled and tracked military equipment.

The exact location of the new training ground remains unknown.

Radio Liberty notes that large-scale construction of a new military base has been underway near Gomel since late 2023. The base is reportedly intended to accommodate the newly established 37th Air Assault Brigade of Belarus's Special Operations Forces.

Lukashenko's government created the brigade in 2025 to "strengthen the southern sector," allegedly to protect against threats from Ukraine.

The eastern part of the new facility is marked on Belarusian state cadastral maps as a "military town," while the western part is designated as a "training and tactical field."

In June 2026, media reported that construction of some facilities at the new military town had been completed. Construction of railway tracks is currently underway.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, military exercises have been taking place in Belarus almost continuously. Alexander Lukashenko has justified them by citing threats and the possibility of an invasion of Belarusian territory from Poland, Lithuania, or Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the site of a Russian strike in Kyiv in May and stated that Alexander Lukashenko's regime is a direct accomplice in the aggression.
