SSU Officers Foil Terrorist Attack By Russian Intelligence Services Against Defense Company Executive In Kyiv Region
"According to available information, the FSB of the Russian Federation organized the assassination attempt. The enemy intended to eliminate the official using an explosive device attached under the driver's seat of his car. SSU counterintelligence and the National Police detected, seized, and neutralized the bomb in advance. It contained 1 kg of RDX, equivalent to 2 kg of TNT," the statement said.
Investigators established that the attack was being prepared by a 63-year-old pensioner who had moved to the Kyiv region from Luhansk region.
In February of this year, the FSB recruited him through his son, who had left the temporarily occupied territory and lives in Russia.

One month before the planned crime, he retrieved the remaining components of the homemade explosive device from a previously prepared cache. Several days later, the perpetrator assembled all the components and attached the completed IED to the vehicle. He also placed a concealed phone opposite the vehicle, connected to a power bank, which provided his Russian handlers with a live video feed to remotely activate the explosion," the SSU reported.
Immediately after planting the explosive device, the perpetrator left for Poland by bus, intending to escape to Russia.
According to the SSU, the suspect was detained in Poland while attempting to travel to Russia in transit through Belarus.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, SSU investigators and prosecutors requested that Polish law enforcement extradite the detainee to Ukraine. He was charged in absentia under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted terrorist act).
As Ukrinform reported, the SSU previously detained a Russian agent who was preparing a terrorist attack in central Mykolaiv. The suspect was a serviceman who had gone absent without leave.
