Latvia Warns of Rising Russian Sub-Conventional Activity
(MENAFN) Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze says Russia has intensified what she describes as “sub-military, sub-conventional” activities, while stressing that Moscow has continued such operations without interruption.
Speaking alongside Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard at a press conference in Stockholm, Braze says Russia remains active in carrying out hybrid operations.
When asked whether Moscow had stepped up hybrid activity following reports that Slovak authorities disrupted an alleged plan to set fire to a drone manufacturing facility, Braze says Russia “never stopped” conducting such activities.
“The indicators are that Russia has increased its sort of sub-military, sub-conventional activity,” she said.
She also points to activity across online platforms, including gaming services and Telegram groups, which she says are being used to spread misleading narratives.
"We have seen also various activities on the platforms, gaming platforms, Telegram groups and so on so forth, trying to create disinformation narratives," said Braze.
Moscow has yet to publicly respond to the Latvian minister’s comments.
Braze also says there are currently no signs of peace being established in Ukraine. As a result, she argues that defense and security will continue to be a “priority for us nationally but also for the region, EU and NATO.”
She adds that Latvia considers preserving NATO’s strength as a defensive alliance and maintaining close cooperation with its transatlantic partners among its key priorities.
