Cairo Presses US To Uphold Iran Mou To Avert Wider Middle East Conflict

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged adherence to the United States-Iran memorandum of understanding to de-escalate soaring regional tensions during a phone call with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff on Tuesday.

Discussing current developments and efforts to contain hostilities, Abdelatty stressed that implementing the agreements outlined in the US-Iran pact serves as a constructive step towards reducing friction and enhancing stability across the Middle East. He highlighted the necessity of intensifying both regional and international efforts to prevent the conflict from expanding, advocating strongly for political dialogue and diplomatic solutions to spare the region further instability and safeguard the security of its nations.

The conversation also addressed the security and freedom of navigation in international waterways. Abdelatty emphasised the urgent need to ensure the safe and unobstructed passage of vessels in strict compliance with relevant international law. He warned against allowing regional escalations to spill over into global maritime corridors, noting that securing these vital routes is critical for maintaining international trade, protecting supply chains, and ensuring global energy security.
