UN Denounces Deadly Gang Attack in Haiti
(MENAFN) The United Nations condemns a deadly gang assault in Kenscoff, Haiti, that leaves at least 47 people dead, with reports indicating that 22 victims were executed inside a church compound.
“The relentless attacks on communities and the loss of lives underscore the alarming security conditions in Haiti,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters, describing the violence as “horrendous.”
The UN says immediate action is needed to strengthen both domestic and international security measures against armed groups operating around the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. Dujarric describes these gangs as “ruthless” groups responsible for terrorizing local communities.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also calling for those responsible to face justice. According to Dujarric, Haitian authorities should use specialized judicial units that were recently created with international assistance to investigate the killings and prosecute the perpetrators.
Violence continues to take a heavy toll across Haiti. The UN Integrated Office in Haiti reports that 1,408 people are killed and another 656 injured nationwide during the second quarter of 2026.
More than half of those casualties are linked to gang activity between April and June, according to the UN office.
The agency says the worsening security situation requires sustained international attention and urges the swift and complete deployment of the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force.
“These figures show that the population continues to bear an unacceptable toll from violence,” said Carlos Ruiz Massieu, the head of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti.
