SpaceX Builds Major Spaceport in Louisiana
(MENAFN) SpaceX is set to invest $100 billion in a massive spaceport project in Louisiana that is expected to become the largest facility of its kind in the world.
The development will be located in Vermilion Parish and is planned to accommodate thousands of launches each year, according to state officials.
Over the coming decade, the project is expected to create around 3,000 direct positions, with workers earning an average annual salary of $92,600. In addition, more than 8,100 indirect jobs are projected to emerge, pushing the total number of employment opportunities above 11,100.
“Today is a pivotal moment for Louisiana,” said Gov. Jeff Landry, adding that the project would place the state at the center of the next frontier in spaceflight.
The Louisiana facility is planned to become SpaceX’s fourth launch location and its largest, supporting the expansion of missions involving Starship, the company's fully reusable next-generation launch system.
Once fully developed, the spaceport is expected to feature five launch complexes, with each one including two launchpads and a propellant storage area.
The wider project is also set to include facilities for producing propellant, generating power, processing launch vehicles, and providing housing for employees and their families.
