Fire at Russian Gas Complex Kills One, Injures Over 120
(MENAFN) At least one person died and more than 120 others were injured Tuesday after a fire tore through the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia's Far East, the company operating the site said.
The victim was identified as a "contractor employee and a Chinese citizen," the company said in a post on Telegram.
At least 19 people were hospitalized in the city of Svobodny with injuries ranging from moderate to severe, it added.
A further 104 people sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, and received medical treatment, according to the company.
The blaze ignited in an auxiliary processing section of the plant's pyrolysis unit but left the main equipment undamaged, the company said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, which the company confirmed has since been brought under control.
