Gaza Death Toll Tops 73,430 as Fresh Strikes Kill Nine
(MENAFN) Nine more Palestinians lost their lives to Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, driving the overall death toll since October 2023 to 73,431, the Health Ministry reported Tuesday.
The ministry's statement broke down the latest fatalities as six people killed directly by Israeli forces, two who succumbed to prior wounds, and one whose remains were pulled from the rubble.
A further 36 people were wounded by Israeli forces during the same 24-hour window, the ministry said, bringing the total number of injuries recorded since the war began to 174,437.
Separately, a medical source told media that two Palestinians had died from wounds inflicted by Israeli army fire in Gaza.
According to the source, one of the two died from injuries suffered during Israeli shelling west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Monday.
The second fatality involved a Palestinian who succumbed to severe injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli strike on the Al-Amal neighborhood of Khan Younis several days prior, the source added.
Local residents also told media that Israeli military vehicles unleashed heavy gunfire on homes and tents housing displaced civilians in areas south of Khan Younis.
Israeli artillery additionally struck the Bureij refugee camp and the vicinity of the Wadi Gaza bridge in central Gaza, witnesses said.
Further north, eyewitnesses described Israeli vehicles opening heavy fire on Palestinian homes in Beit Lahia amid a barrage of artillery shelling.
The latest violence unfolded despite a public appeal from US President Donald Trump for Israel to halt its strikes on Gaza.
Speaking to Fox News on Aug. 17, Trump said “Israelis should not be striking in Gaza. Hamas agreed to lay down their weapons” under his plan to end the war in the enclave.
Even after the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, Israeli violations have claimed 1,296 Palestinian lives and injured 4,296 more, the Health Ministry in Gaza said.
Beyond the human toll, roughly 90% of Gaza's civilian infrastructure has been destroyed by Israeli action, with the UN projecting reconstruction costs at approximately $70 billion.
