Pakistan Holds US Talks After Tehran Peace Efforts
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi meets with US acting Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad on Tuesday following his return from Tehran, where he accompanied the country’s army chief in diplomatic discussions aimed at easing the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, the meeting focuses on the broader regional situation as well as efforts to promote peace and stability.
Baker praises Field Marshal Asim Munir for what she describes as his “positive diplomatic role in promoting peace and stability in the region.”
Naqvi travels to Tehran with Munir on Monday as part of Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate communication between the United States and Iran. During the visit, the Pakistani delegation holds talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Bagher Qalibaf, Supreme Leader’s representative on the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
Following the meetings, Naqvi says the discussions produce encouraging results and could help advance efforts to resolve the ongoing confrontation.
“Significant progress was made, and the meeting concluded on a highly positive note. We remain hopeful that this momentum will help pave the way for further progress and lasting peace in the region,” Naqvi said after their return from Tehran.
Iran also describes Munir’s visit as highly successful, saying it produces important diplomatic results whose impact is expected to become clearer in the near future.
The latest meetings reflect Pakistan’s continued efforts to act as a mediator and encourage Washington and Tehran to return to dialogue while tensions remain high across the region.
