Norway Hit by Third Major Cyberattack in Nine Weeks
(MENAFN) Multiple public services in Norway have come under sustained cyberattack since Monday, a broadcaster reported Tuesday.
The Norwegian Digitalisation Agency (Digdir) told the broadcaster the assault began overnight Monday and has continued with "undiminished force." By roughly the 30-hour mark, 10 services had reportedly been knocked off course.
The incident marks the third denial-of-service attack to hit Digdir in just nine weeks, according to the report.
“What is special about this latest attack, which has now been ongoing for a day, is that it is two to three times larger than what we experienced last time,” press officer Are Kvistad told the broadcaster.
Authorities said they aren't speculating publicly on who's behind the attack, but Kvistad cautioned that full restoration of all systems could take time even once the attack is halted and the underlying problems fixed.
Officials also stressed that hackers have not gained access to sensitive data stored within the affected systems.
