Türkiye Hails US Move to Strike Syria From Terror Sponsor List

(MENAFN) Türkiye welcomed Washington's decision Tuesday to remove Syria from the US State Sponsors of Terrorism List, calling it a breakthrough that clears away a major barrier to the country's economic recovery and rebuilding.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry, in a statement, credited "the constructive approach of the US Administration," saying Washington had shown "its resolve in this regard," while also praising the US Congress for backing the move.

The ministry extended congratulations to the Syrian government and its people for their "steadfastness."

It noted that the decision — one Türkiye "has also long advocated" — had cleared away "one of the major obstacles to Syria's economic recovery and reconstruction."

Ankara said it hopes the move will "give further impetus to efforts to strengthen Syria's ties with the international community and establish lasting security and stability in the country."

“At this juncture, we call on the international community to join forces” to support Syria's recovery, the statement said.

The ministry added that it sees broader international cooperation as key to rebuilding the country and cementing long-term stability now that Washington has acted.
