Israeli Lawmaker Filmed Destroying Palestinian Memorial in West Bank
(MENAFN) Israeli parliament member Tzvi Succot used a hammer to destroy a memorial listing the names of Palestinians killed in Madama, a West Bank village south of Nablus, doing so Tuesday in front of Israeli soldiers, according to Israeli media.
Succot, who sits with the far-right Religious Zionism party, posted a photo of himself carrying out the act on X, showing him swinging a large hammer at the monument.
He said he had pressed the Israeli military repeatedly in recent weeks to tear down what he called "terror memorials" scattered across the region. “I very much hope this will be done as soon as possible,” he said.
Footage circulating separately on social media corroborated the account, showing Succot smashing the memorial with soldiers standing nearby.
According to an Israeli daily newspaper, Succot had sought approval more than a month earlier to visit Palestinian villages in the area, a request that was greenlit just days before the incident. The outlet reported that during the roughly half-hour visit, Succot damaged the memorial.
The Israeli military said it had received no advance notice that the lawmaker planned to destroy the monument.
