Trump Claims Iran Faces Military Pay Crisis
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Iran is failing to provide salaries to significant parts of its military while also facing what he describes as a severe humanitarian emergency.
“The failing Islamic Republic of Iran is not paying large segments of their military, while at the same time killing protesters, even when they are not protesting, at levels not seen before. It is a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions, and must be stopped, NOW,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump’s remarks come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran following the collapse of an agreement reached earlier this year. The framework, signed in June, seeks to halt hostilities and restore normal commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The arrangement later breaks down as the two sides remain at odds over how the agreement should be implemented and the conditions governing navigation through the strategically important waterway.
The latest confrontation traces back to late February, when the United States and Israel launch an attack on Iran. Tehran subsequently responds with strikes targeting Israel and US military positions across the region.
