Turkish Red Crescent Ramps Up Gaza Aid Push From Egypt Warehouses
(MENAFN) The Turkish Red Crescent is pressing ahead with its humanitarian mission for the Gaza Strip, working to guarantee that assistance dispatched from Türkiye actually makes it into the territory, the organization's president said Tuesday.
Addressing reporters at Egyptian Red Crescent warehouses in El-Arish, Egypt, Fatma Meric Yilmaz outlined the range of relief operations her organization has run for Gaza since 2023, stressing that the group tracks every shipment leaving Türkiye closely.
The most recent vessel, sent out during Ramadan's opening week, carried a load large enough to fill roughly 400 trucks bound for Gaza, Yilmaz said. That cargo, blocked from crossing at the border for a mix of reasons, ended up unloaded and stored in El-Arish warehouses instead. At present, about 15 truckloads of Turkish aid make it into Gaza daily, she noted.
“Quickly, the aid sent by Türkiye here is being directed inside,” she said.
Yilmaz singled out the coordination role played by the Egyptian Red Crescent as critical to the delivery pipeline, noting that some items must be pulled from packages and repackaged before they can move forward. She also credited Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers for their sustained work throughout the operation.
Ground operations continue inside Gaza
Beyond what crosses the border, Yilmaz said, the Turkish Red Crescent maintains a direct presence in Gaza through its own staff and delegation, running three soup kitchens across the territory.
“Every day, we prepare and distribute 30,000 hot meals. This amounts to an operation of approximately 100 million liras per month,” Yilmaz said.
She underscored that hot meals matter most for people with no means to cook for themselves, adding that aid offerings are being adjusted to match evolving needs on the ground. When the aid pipeline into Gaza tightens, the organization pivots to sourcing food parcels from inside the territory itself for distribution, she said. The group also delivers 100 tons of drinking water daily.
The Turkish Red Crescent's work extends to psychosocial support programs aimed largely at children, according to Yilmaz, alongside a newly launched prosthetics initiative for amputees and broader health assistance efforts.
'We are following through on what Turkish people entrusted to us'
Yilmaz said public sentiment in Türkiye remains deeply attuned to Gaza's humanitarian crisis, and pledged the organization would keep working to see that entrusted aid reaches those who need it.
“We are following through on what the Turkish people entrusted to us,” Yilmaz said.
She said the organization tracks the full chain of assistance — from aid ships delivering supplies to Gaza, through to converting cash donations into hot meals, drinking water, toys and hygiene supplies. Yilmaz vowed the Turkish Red Crescent would keep pushing to make sure Gaza doesn't slip from public attention or get forgotten.
“We are doing everything we can, and we will continue to do so,” she said.
