Danish PM Frederiksen Slams Surgeon Over Unsolicited Nose 'Fix' Offer
(MENAFN) Denmark's prime minister has spoken out against what she called a relentless barrage of remarks about her looks, after a male plastic surgeon messaged her out of the blue offering to "correct" a spot on her nose.
The unsolicited pitch landed in Mette Frederiksen's inbox just after she flew home from a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine's capital.
According to a screenshot she posted on Instagram, the surgeon wrote: “Hey Mette, shouldn't we just fix that little spot on your nose? Regards,”
Frederiksen shut down the suggestion outright, firing back: “I am satisfied with my body and don’t really need a male plastic surgeon to have an opinion about that.”
She later explained what made the message sting: the jarring gap between it and what she'd just witnessed in a country at war. “The last thing I heard when we left Kyiv yesterday was the air raid siren,” she wrote. “The war is still raging in Europe. One of the first messages I got when I was back in Denmark was this. Come on.”
The prime minister said the exchange was far from an isolated incident — she's fielded appearance-related criticism for years, covering everything from her teeth and thinning hair to that same nose mark, which others have called ugly, plus unsolicited suggestions that she get Botox.
In her post, Frederiksen blacked out the surgeon's name and said she hoped he'd eventually find better use of his time. She closed by urging women who face similar unwanted commentary on their looks to embrace themselves fully — "perfect imperfections" included, in her words.
Frederiksen has held Denmark's top job since 2019 and is now serving her third term, placing her among Europe's longest-tenured sitting leaders.
