Fire at Russia’s Amur Gas Complex Leaves One Dead, Hundreds Injured
(MENAFN) A fire at Russia’s Amur Gas Chemical Complex in the Far East leaves at least one person dead and more than 120 others injured on Tuesday, according to the company operating the facility.
The fatality is identified as a Chinese national working for a contractor at the complex.
At least 19 injured people are taken to hospitals in the nearby city of Svobodny with moderate to serious injuries. Another 104 individuals receive medical attention for less severe wounds, including cuts and bruises.
The blaze reportedly starts in an auxiliary processing section of the facility’s pyrolysis unit. The company says the main production equipment does not sustain damage during the incident.
Emergency crews manage to contain the fire, while authorities begin investigating what caused the outbreak.
The company says the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under examination as officials work to determine how the fire started.
