Iranian Strikes Cause 'Unprecedented' Damage to US Spy Sites
(MENAFN) Iranian missile and drone strikes have inflicted "unprecedented damage" on US intelligence facilities and surveillance infrastructure across the Middle East, media reported Tuesday.
Citing four sources familiar with the matter, the report said the strikes damaged buildings and intelligence-gathering equipment operated by the CIA and other US spy agencies.
Repairing or replacing the damaged infrastructure is expected to cost billions of dollars, according to the report.
Sources described the scope of destruction as exceeding any damage previously inflicted on US intelligence agencies.
Tensions across the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran in February, prompting Tehran to retaliate with strikes on regional countries hosting American assets.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June, brokered through Pakistani mediation, aimed at ending the conflict and securing a lasting peace agreement. Talks have since stalled, however, amid continuing disputes over the memorandum's terms and the question of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global energy exports.
