Norwegian Public Services Face Major Cyberattack
(MENAFN) Several Norwegian government services are experiencing disruptions following a large-scale cyberattack that begins Monday and continues into Tuesday, according to reports.
The Norwegian Digitalisation Agency (Digdir) says the incident starts overnight and remains at “undiminished force,” affecting a number of digital public services across the country.
After roughly 30 hours, the attack is reportedly causing problems for 10 different services. Authorities identify the incident as the third denial-of-service attack targeting Digdir within a period of nine weeks.
“What is special about this latest attack, which has now been ongoing for a day, is that it is two to three times larger than what we experienced last time,” press officer Are Kvistad told a broadcaster.
Officials say they are not currently speculating about the identity or motive of those responsible. They also warn that restoring all affected systems may take additional time even after the cyberattack ends and technical issues are addressed.
Authorities emphasize that the incident does not appear to have compromised sensitive data, with attackers reportedly unable to access confidential information stored within the affected systems.
