Israeli Lawmaker Destroys Palestinian Memorial in West Bank
(MENAFN) Israeli lawmaker Tzvi Succot destroys a memorial dedicated to Palestinians killed in the occupied West Bank village of Madama on Tuesday, carrying out the act in the presence of Israeli soldiers, according to reports.
Succot, a member of the far-right Religious Zionism party, shares an image showing himself striking the memorial with a large hammer. The monument, located in the village south of Nablus, contains the names of Palestinians who were killed in the area.
The lawmaker says he has repeatedly urged the Israeli military in recent weeks to remove what he calls “terror memorials” from Palestinian communities across the region.
“I very much hope this will be done as soon as possible,” he said.
Footage shared online also appears to show Succot breaking the memorial while Israeli soldiers stand nearby.
According to reports, Succot had sought authorization more than a month earlier to visit Palestinian villages in the area. His request was reportedly granted several days before the incident took place.
