Montana House Shooting, Fire Kills Several People, Including Kids

(MENAFN) Several people, including children, are killed after a gunman opens fire inside a home in Billings, Montana, before setting the property ablaze, according to authorities.

Police respond to the incident Sunday evening near the West End neighborhood after receiving a report of gunshots. Authorities initially describe the case as a family disturbance.

The shooter later dies from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after setting the residence on fire, according to reports.

Interim Yellowstone County Sheriff Kent O’Donnell confirms that “multiple adults and multiple juveniles” are among those who die inside the home. Authorities identify the victims but have not yet publicly disclosed their exact number, names or ages.

“Because of the fire and obviously water that goes to suppress that fire, it’s going to slow our investigation of the crime scene recovery of evidence,” he said. “So we ask for patience as we complete this investigation.”

O’Donnell says officers are dispatched to White Star Circle after a 911 caller reports hearing shots coming from the residence. Police arrive roughly 10 minutes later and hear additional gunfire coming from the rear of the house.

Only about three minutes afterward, the entire property becomes engulfed in flames, complicating the recovery of evidence and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
