Israel Carries Out Strikes in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) Israeli forces launch an airstrike and artillery attacks in southern Lebanon early Tuesday while constructing additional earth barriers, in what Lebanese reports describe as the latest breach of a US-mediated agreement.
An Israeli aircraft strikes the Litani River area beneath the Deir Mar Mima monastery in Deir Mimas at around 4 a.m. local time, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shells hit the town of Markaba in the Marjayoun district as Israeli military vehicles are reportedly seen operating inside the area.
Israeli forces positioned in Kfar Kila and Tall al-Nahhas also build an earth barrier near the Deir Mimas-Burj al-Muluk-Kfar Kila intersection, extending toward Tall al-Nahhas. The barrier is reportedly located roughly 150 meters from residential buildings in Burj al-Muluk.
Another earth embankment is constructed near the Deir Mimas-Burj al-Muluk-Houra junction in the direction of the Houra area.
The latest incidents add to mounting tensions between Israel and Lebanon, which have continued since a renewed wave of fighting began on March 2 despite efforts to maintain the US-brokered framework.
