Minister of Education Leonardo Sánchez confirmed early progress during the administration's 100-day report, highlighting approved expansion plans for Heredia, Turrialba, and Nicoya.
Key Expansion Details & Campus NetworkNew Heredia Campus: The National University (UNA) Omar Dengo campus will welcome its inaugural scientific high school class in 2027, with admissions currently underway.
Public University Partnerships: Scientific high schools operate directly within public university campuses.
UNED Support: The State Distance University (UNED) currently hosts 7 of the nation's 14 scientific schools across Limón, Alajuela, San Vito, Upala, Parrita, Puriscal, and Los Santos.
Technical Education Pivot: Alongside new scientific schools, the government plans to convert 50 standard academic high schools into technical high schools.
