Israel Threatens Gaza Residents Over Kites Flown by Children

(MENAFN) Israel issues threats of targeted killings and the evacuation of residential areas in Gaza over kites flown from the enclave, even as its own army acknowledges that kites found near the border contain no suspicious materials and pose no threat to the public.

Recent reports indicate that several kites have reached Israeli communities located near the Gaza Strip.

However, information from the ground indicates that the kites are primarily used by children for recreation, particularly in displacement camps, where youngsters seek brief moments of relief amid the severe conditions resulting from Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza.

The simple kites are operated from the ground using strings, but strong winds can carry them beyond the Gaza Strip if their strings break. Some Israeli residential communities are located only a few kilometers from Gaza, allowing wind currents to carry the lightweight objects across the boundary.

Despite the absence of reported dangerous materials, Israeli authorities continue to threaten severe measures over the kites, raising concerns about the potential targeting of Palestinian civilians and children.
