Israeli Army Expands Incursions in Southern Syria, Detains Shepherd
(MENAFN) Israeli forces carry out another incursion into Syria's southern Quneitra province on Sunday, detaining a local shepherd during the operation, according to reports.
The Israeli troops advance into the area west of Al-Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside before taking the shepherd into custody.
The area has experienced repeated Israeli military incursions, with another Israeli advance reportedly taking place west of Al-Rafid on Friday.
Southern Syria has faced recurring Israeli military activity for months, including raids, searches, arrests and the establishment of military checkpoints in several areas.
The incursions intensify following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024. Israel subsequently announces the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement and takes control of the Syrian buffer zone.
The continued operations have further increased tensions along the border and raised concerns over Israel's expanding military presence in southern Syria.
