Iran Tightens Strait of Hormuz Rules, Warns Vessels of Penalties
(MENAFN) Iran warns that ships failing to follow its transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz could face financial penalties, detention or even seizure during future passages through the strategic waterway.
The warning comes from Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which says companies involved in transporting goods to or from the Gulf should review an updated list of vessels accused of violating the rules before arranging charters.
The authority also announces that vessels cooperating with ships already included on the list will be added from Sunday. This applies to ships involved in ship-to-ship cargo transfers, transshipment activities and other similar operations.
Iran says operators seeking to have a vessel removed from the list must submit an official request outlining the reasons for their appeal.
The latest measures signal a tougher approach by Tehran toward vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz and place additional requirements on shipping companies using the strategically important maritime route.
