Amman, Aug. 24 (Petra) -- Jordan hosted on Sunday a meeting between Syrian and Israeli officials at the request of Syria to discuss reducing tensions and supporting de-escalation, a Jordanian official source said on Monday.

The meeting followed Israeli strikes on Syrian territory last week that targeted the Abu Al-Duhur military airport in Idlib Governorate, amid heightened tensions in southern Syria.

The source reaffirmed Jordan's condemnation of the Israeli attacks on Syria, describing them as a clear violation of international law and a serious escalation. Jordan also reiterated its full support for the Syrian government in its efforts to safeguard the country's security, stability and sovereignty and preserve its territorial integrity.

The source stressed the need for an immediate end to the Israeli attacks on Syria, Israel's withdrawal from occupied Syrian territory, and respect for the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
