European Commission Approves €6.1 Billion For Defense Procurement For Ukraine
“On Ukraine's Independence Day, Europe is showing unwavering and concrete support. Today, we approved €6.1 billion for air and missile defence systems, missiles, ammunition and radars urgently needed by Ukraine. As Russia intensifies its attacks, we are working to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its skies. Europe stands with Ukraine, and we will provide it with what it needs – when it needs it,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
The funds are part of a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine and are being provided amid Russia's intensifying attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones.
In July alone, 376 missile attacks were recorded, making the strengthening of Ukraine's defenses increasingly urgent.
Most of the procurement will be carried out from EU defense companies.

Amid Russia's increased use of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, the European Commission emphasizes the need for a significant increase in deliveries from the EU by drawing down stocks, reprioritizing orders, and ramping up production.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, on June 30, the EU allocated €3.9 billion to Ukraine for drones.
