World Leaders Congratulate Ukraine On Independence Day

On behalf of the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of its independence and emphasized that his country remains ready to work toward achieving peace in Ukraine.

“Today, 35 years after Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991, the United States once again reaffirms the strong partnership between our two countries. The United States remains committed to Ukraine's sovereignty and continues to work to support a negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine war that will ensure lasting and durable peace,” the statement on the U.S. Department of State website reads.

Rubio also emphasized that the United States is once again reaffirming its firm commitment to strengthening economic and security ties between the two countries and paving the way toward peace and prosperity for both peoples.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stressed in her message that Ukraine's freedom is Europe's freedom.

“Today, on Independence Day, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who are courageous, resilient and determined to remain free. Your future is in Europe,” Metsola wrote on X.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar also joined the congratulations. He noted that this year is particularly significant as Israel and Ukraine mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. According to him, over these years the two countries have built a strong partnership based on mutual respect, shared values, and close people-to-people ties.

““We honor the resilience and unwavering spirit of the Ukrainian people, as well as their steadfast commitment to their freedom and independence. As Ukraine continues to overcome the serious challenges caused by the war, allow me to wish that the coming year will bring security, prosperity and lasting peace to Ukraine and its people,” Sa'ar wrote on .

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said that her country values its partnership with Ukraine, built“on shared values and cooperation.”

“Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! Together, we are contributing to building a more prosperous, secure and democratic Europe. We wish the people of Ukraine peace, prosperity and a bright future. You have our support and friendship,” the message on X sai.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in his message that Australia stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine on Independence Day and pledged continued support.

“We honour Ukraine's courage, resilience and determination to defend its sovereignty and freedom. Australia will continue to support Ukraine,” Albanese wrote on X.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on Monday, August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of independence.

In honor of the occasion, the bell tower of Canada's Parliament in Ottawa, as well as the Prime Minister's Office building, were illuminated in Ukraine's national colors as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.
