Return To Normal Relations With Russia Impossible While War In Ukraine Continues Czech FM

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka said this at a meeting of the heads of the Czech Republic's diplomatic missions abroad, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“Russia has fundamentally damaged European security through its invasion of Ukraine. A return to normal relations [with Russia] is impossible as long as this aggression continues,” Macinka emphasized.

He noted that as long as the aggression continues, there is no point in abandoning the tools of economic pressure on Russia, and assured that the Czech Republic and its allies would continue to use these pressure tools against Russia wherever they are effective.

“Russia's war in Ukraine is a fundamental European security problem, and the Czech Republic has a clear interest in ensuring that military aggression does not become a successful tool of international policy,” the minister said.

The diplomat also noted that war is not a PR campaign but a tragic reality, and therefore there is no need to compete in displays of support.

“The task of responsible policy is not to compete in gestures, but to create the conditions for a safe and lasting peace while protecting the security interests of the Czech Republic,” he emphasized.

In his speech, Macinka also pointed out that despite the tragedy of the war in Ukraine, the world should not be viewed through the lens of a single conflict. According to him, one security threat-the war in Ukraine-must not be allowed to overshadow all others. The minister cited such security threats as uncontrolled mass migration, energy dependence, technological lag, and others.

The Czech foreign minister outlined three main principles on which the government's foreign policy will be based: realism, reciprocity, and diversification.

As reported, in early August, Ukraine's ambassadors held a meeting in Kyiv, where the tasks of Ukraine's foreign service abroad were outlined.
