Libya Strengthens Cooperation with Iraq Across Key Sectors
(MENAFN) Libya seeks to broaden its cooperation with Iraq in several important areas, acting Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour says during an official visit to Baghdad.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Al-Baour emphasizes the longstanding relationship between the two countries and the shared challenges they face.
“Our relationship with Iraq is longstanding, and the two countries share many common issues,” Al-Baour said.
He says Libya aims to establish itself as a more effective and influential state within the Arab region and stresses the importance of closer coordination with Iraq.
The Libyan official calls for greater cooperation and information-sharing in sectors including education, healthcare and the oil industry.
Hussein says Baghdad is working to further develop its ties with Libya and reiterates Iraq's support for resolving disagreements among Libyan parties through peaceful means.
He also says several memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed during Al-Baour's visit, covering areas of mutual interest between the two countries.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi separately meets with the Libyan minister and his delegation to discuss ways of expanding bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Zaidi receives a written message from Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh emphasizing “the importance of consolidating and strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Libya.”
