Putin, Trump May Meet on APEC Summit Sidelines

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could hold talks on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China in November if both leaders attend the gathering, according to the Kremlin.

“If the leaders are at the same event, then it seems to me they will inevitably meet and talk,” Ushakov said.

No official arrangements for a meeting have been made so far, and there are currently no indications that such a discussion is being planned. However, Russian officials note that several months remain before the APEC summit and that numerous major international events will take place before then.

“We have to live until then. Before that, we still have many major international events,” he said.

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says NATO and European Union members are unlikely to openly separate themselves from their military support for Ukraine or from policies that Moscow considers hostile toward Russia.

Lavrov says Moscow will closely monitor the conduct of what he describes as “openly Russophobic elites” in Britain, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and other NATO and EU capitals.

“They know what they are doing and are trying to publicly distance themselves from it in advance. It won’t work,” he said.
