Akbar Ghobakhlou is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand. He is the Data Science Major Leader and the Founder and Head of the GeoEnviroSense Research Group within the AI Research Centre. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, GeoAI, environmental sensing, and edge intelligence, with applications in biodiversity conservation, precision agriculture, climate and weather forecasting, and intelligent environmental monitoring.

Akbar has extensive experience in research leadership, curriculum development, and academic service. He currently serves as Chair of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society New Zealand Chapter and has held leadership roles in several international conferences and professional organisations. His expertise spans deep learning, computer vision, geospatial analytics, remote sensing, bioacoustics, IoT, wireless sensor networks, and data science.
