Kremlin Says Trump, Putin Could Meet on Sidelines of APEC Summit
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China in November if both leaders attend, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov said Sunday.
“If the leaders are at the same event, then it seems to me they will inevitably meet and talk,” Ushakov said in an interview with a Russian broadcaster .
Ushakov said there had been no indications so far that such a meeting was being planned. However, with the APEC summit still roughly three months away, he said there was ample time for developments to take place.
“We have to live until then. Before that, we still have many major international events,” he said.
Lavrov warns of continued Western support for Ukraine
In a separate interview with the broadcaster, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said NATO and European Union countries would be unable to publicly disavow their military support for Ukraine or what he characterized as an anti-Russian policy.
Lavrov said Moscow would consider the actions of what he described as “openly Russophobic elites” in Britain, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and other NATO and EU member states when assessing Russia's response.
“They know what they are doing and are trying to publicly distance themselves from it in advance. It won’t work,” he said.
