Egypt, Iran Review Efforts to Reduce Regional Tensions
(MENAFN) Egypt and Iran discuss ways to reduce tensions across the region and advance the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington, according to reports.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi hold a phone conversation on Saturday during which they review regional developments and diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing the current tensions.
The discussions focus on efforts “to create an environment conducive to de-escalation and a return to the diplomatic path – whether regarding the negotiation track between Oman and Iran or the resumption of the implementation of the US-Iran memorandum with the ultimate goal of reaching a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that addresses various concerns and enhances regional security and stability.”
Abdelatty stresses the need to intensify diplomatic contacts and ongoing initiatives designed to lower tensions and promote peaceful solutions that could help restore stability and security throughout the region.
The Egyptian foreign minister also highlights the importance of maintaining unrestricted international navigation and protecting the security and stability of Gulf countries.
He emphasizes that these efforts should be pursued “in a manner that serves the interests of all the region's peoples.
