Aliyev Meets Yushchenko as Azerbaijan, Ukraine Discuss Future Ties
(MENAFN) Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev holds talks with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in Baku on Monday, focusing on their long-standing relationship and the future of cooperation between the two countries.
Aliyev says the pair, who first became acquainted more than two decades ago, look back on their earlier collaboration to strengthen relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine before discussing opportunities to further develop bilateral ties.
“We shared fond memories, recalled our joint efforts to strengthen Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations, and exchanged views on the future prospects of our ties,” he said.
During the meeting, Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev presents Aliyev with an official certificate granting him the title of Honorary Citizen of Irpin, a Ukrainian city, according to the Azerbaijani president’s office.
Yushchenko, who leads Ukraine from 2005 until 2010, arrives in the Azerbaijani capital on Sunday ahead of the meeting.
