Aliyev, Ex-Ukrainian President Yushchenko Meet in Baku
(MENAFN) Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held talks Monday with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko during a visit to Baku, revisiting a friendship that stretches back more than two decades.
Writing on X, Aliyev said the two leaders reflected on years of past cooperation and looked ahead to what's next for bilateral relations. “We shared fond memories, recalled our joint efforts to strengthen Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations, and exchanged views on the future prospects of our ties,” he wrote.
During the meeting, Ukraine's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev, presented Aliyev with a certificate declaring him an Honorary Citizen of Irpin, a city in Ukraine, according to Aliyev's office.
Yushchenko, who led Ukraine as president from 2005 to 2010, arrived in Baku on Sunday ahead of the meeting.
