Putin Hails 'Unprecedented' Russia-North Korea Ties on Liberation Day
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that Moscow and Pyongyang are actively coordinating to safeguard regional security and stability, marking the 81st anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day with a message underscoring the depth of the two nations' alliance.
In a telegram addressed to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Putin declared that ties between the two countries have climbed to an “unprecedented level of comprehensive strategic partnership.”
“Our countries actively cooperate in all areas, coordinating their efforts to ensure regional security and stability,” Putin wrote, according to the message published by the Kremlin.
He added that he expects the partnership to deepen further, voicing confidence the two sides will continue tackling pressing bilateral and international matters “for the benefit of the Russian and Korean peoples, in the interests of building a more just and truly democratic world order.”
The exchange reflects a rapid expansion of political, military and economic cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang over the past two years, accelerating since the two governments signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June 2024.
Liberation Day commemorates Japan's defeat in World War II and the end of 35 years of colonial rule over the Korean Peninsula — a date also observed as a national holiday in South Korea.
