Bjork to Host Iceland Festival as Total Solar Eclipse Darkens the Sky
(MENAFN) Icelandic singer and artist Bjork is set to headline a special outdoor music festival in Iceland on Wednesday, timed to coincide with a total solar eclipse passing over the country.
The one-day event, titled Echolalia, will take place at Vidadstadatun park in Hafnarfjordur, roughly 10 kilometers (6 miles) southwest of Reykjavik.
The celestial event will mark Iceland’s first total solar eclipse visible from its territory since 1954. The eclipse will travel across Greenland, Iceland and Spain, attracting scientists, visitors and music enthusiasts eager to witness the rare phenomenon.
Organizers said the festival venue is positioned directly within the eclipse’s path of totality. At approximately 5.48 p.m. local time (1748 GMT), the moon will completely block the sun, plunging the area into darkness for around one minute and four seconds.
Rather than performing a conventional concert, Bjork will take part as a DJ. Venezuelan producer Arca and Icelandic performers Ronja and Sideproject are also scheduled to appear, alongside other artists.
The event builds on Bjork’s long-running Manakvold series, a collection of informal dance gatherings traditionally organized around full moons. This time, however, the eclipse will provide the backdrop for the celebration.
Visitors attending the festival will receive approved solar eclipse viewing glasses as part of their tickets.
