Zuckerberg Warns Against Concentrating Advanced AI Power
(MENAFN) Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday urged the broad distribution of advanced artificial intelligence, warning that placing highly capable AI systems under the control of a small number of companies, governments or institutions could create serious risks.
In a letter titled The Future is for Everyone: The Path to a Positive AI Future, Zuckerberg argued that the development of superintelligence should focus on giving people greater abilities to create, make discoveries and address complex challenges rather than simply replacing existing forms of human labor.
“We propose a philosophy based on individual empowerment as the source of prosperity, invention as the primary purpose of superintelligence, and balance of power as the foundation of safety,” he wrote.
Zuckerberg said it would be unrealistic for a single superintelligent system to represent the diverse and sometimes conflicting interests and values of humanity. He therefore advocated making powerful AI technologies more widely available, allowing individuals, companies, governments and competing AI systems to serve as counterweights to one another.
“The key to a positive future for everyone is achieving a balance of power that favors individuals,” he said.
His comments came alongside Meta’s introduction of Muse Glimmer, an open-weight AI model containing 30 billion learned parameters. The system is designed to support locally operated AI agents on consumer devices, reflecting Meta’s broader push to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible outside centralized computing environments.
