Jennie Brand-Miller (AO, FAA, FAIFST, FNSA, PhD) is Emeritus Professor in Human Nutrition in the Charles Perkins Centre and the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, at the University of Sydney. She studied food science and technology before obtaining a doctorate in nutrition at the University of New South Wales. She is recognised around the world for her work on carbohydrates and the glycemic index (or GI) of foods, with over 350 scientific publications. She received the 2003 Clunies Ross Medal for contributions to science and technology in Australia, and was a finalist in the Australian of the Year awards in 2006. Her books about the glycemic index have been bestsellers and made the GI a household word. She is a past-President of the Nutrition Society of Australia, and past Chair of the National Committee for Nutrition of the Australian Academy of Science. She served as President of the Glycemic Index Foundation Ltd, a not-for-profit health promotion charity that administered a food symbol program for consumers from 2002-2024. She is a proud recipient of bilateral Cochlear Nucleus implants.
