Czech Republic Considers School Mobile Phone Ban
(MENAFN) The Czech government is considering legislation that would prohibit the use of mobile phones and other electronic communication devices in kindergartens, primary schools and lower-level classes at multi-year grammar schools, according to reports.
The proposed law, introduced by Prime Minister Andrej Babis and Education Minister Robert Plaga, would expand restrictions beyond classrooms to cover school breaks, cafeterias and extracurricular programs, reports stated.
The legislation includes exceptions for students who need electronic devices for medical purposes or due to special educational requirements. Schools would also have the authority to permit device use during classes or educational trips when they consider it necessary for learning activities.
However, Children’s Ombudsman Martin Benes opposed the proposal, saying that schools already have the ability to manage phone use through their own internal regulations and that a new law is not needed.
