Wildfires Spread Across Algeria as Heat Wave Intensifies, Power Returns

(MENAFN) Algerian emergency crews are continuing efforts to contain 19 wildfires spreading across 10 provinces as the country faces a severe heat wave, while authorities have restored electricity to areas affected by a nationwide power disruption.

The Civil Protection Directorate reported that 139 fires had broken out since Tuesday.

Firefighters managed to put out 120 of them, while teams remain engaged in controlling the remaining blazes in several provinces, including Setif, Bejaia, and Saida.

Authorities said military aircraft have been assisting firefighting operations by carrying out water drops over affected locations to help slow the spread of the flames.

The wildfires resulted in one death and left another person seriously injured in Setif on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Energy and Renewable Energy Minister Mourad Adjal announced that power supplies had been completely restored across the 16 provinces that experienced outages on Tuesday night.
