US Launches New Strikes on Iran, Denies Reports of American Deaths
(MENAFN) US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Sunday that American forces had carried out a fresh wave of strikes against Iran.
"At 5 p.m. ET today, U.S. Central Command forces began launching more strikes against Iran to continue degrading their ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a post on X.
The command stated the operation was conducted at the direction of President Donald Trump "to hold Iranian forces accountable."
The latest action follows a Saturday strike in which CENTCOM said it hit roughly 140 Iranian military targets, including missile and drone sites, naval assets, ammunition depots, communication infrastructure, and coastal surveillance posts. Across three consecutive nights of bombardment this week, CENTCOM reported striking more than 300 targets in total.
The escalating campaign came in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran's declaration that it was shutting down the strategic waterway indefinitely.
Iran, for its part, said it had struck US military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Oman. The United Arab Emirates reported intercepting and responding to Iranian missile and drone attacks on its territory.
On Sunday, CENTCOM pushed back against Iranian media claims that three American service members had been killed in Iranian strikes on Kuwait, dismissing the reports as "false."
"There are zero reports of U.S. service member deaths or injuries in the region. All personnel are accounted for," the command said.
